Dying to

Dying to get back into the swing here after thanksgiving before my drawing muscles get flabby and weak but first Meg's birthday celebration! I only hope we don't have TOO much fun.

Just a doodle in the more simplified style I intend to use for Riot District.

Really starting

Really starting to churn this stuff out (relatively speaking of course) partly because I'm not stopping as much to layout the pages. The Fanboy Comics people aren't really asking that of me and it really seems like too much hassle to do all that scanning/coloring/layout just for blog posts. I'm looking forward to making this big folder of painted artwork then doing all the finishing at once. Sort of like the mixing of an album after it's all recorded (something else I really need to get round to at some point).

Now that I'm not stuck on the hostile territory of crowded buses (and other mass transit systems) I'm really finding that I enjoy drawing and painting after all. I'm also realizing that I could benefit from some serious anatomy practice. Any good book suggestions?

Countdown

Countdown to Megsgiving has begun. Fat chance of getting anything much done in the next few days except eating Turkey and dark brown minty things. It's also fucking cold (for California).

Pretty awesome

Pretty awesome start to the weekend already, things can only possibly get worse.

Wait no.

Got given

Got given some drawing advice from Meaghan. She really nose her stuff.

Feels like

Feels like pushing food around on a plate: forcing a pretty average sketch into something I can use just because I want to get off this damn bus already!

Needed less

Needed less photoshop than I thought. That's probably a good sign.

One more

One more before it goes into Photoshop to be summarily ruined.

A week

A week of stress and unproductive self-hate but I think I'm back on the rails. I think it all had something to do with doubting myself for a split-second there. Hmm, I'll have to remember not to do that.

Ever again.

Another

Another extremely productive and creative weekend without any doubts or setbacks.

Wait no, it wasn't like that at all.

A hundred words.

Struggling, I leaned in, pressing against the tiles as hard as I could. I heard them coming and I'm sure as shit they could hear me struggling. A reasonable thought would be to see a pile of shattered bathroom tiles and a hole in the wall and say "he went through there". If only they were capable of reasonable thought.

From up on the second floor he sends them. Across the suspiciously empty, unlit parking lot. I pause for a second and try to remember the last time I'd even seen a car and I get stuck.

Like a pig.

This is

This is the kind of page that makes me question whether doing a comic is even the right thing for me. I'm really only happy with it because now I can move onto to something else. If there is a bright side to look on it's that it really exposed a lot of weaknesses in my drawing ability when it comes to drawing anything but one person at a time (that preferably look like me) and I can now focus on improving those. Lovely.

For some reason working on this reminded me of this old joke:

One day, during a lesson on proper grammar, the teacher asked for a show of hands for who could use the word "beautiful" in the same sentence twice.

First, she called on little Suzy, who responded with, "My father bought my mother a beautiful dress and she looked beautiful in it."

"Very good, Suzy," replied the teacher. She then called on little Michael.

"My mommy planned a beautiful banquet and it turned out beautifully," he said.

"Excellent, Michael!" Then, the teacher called on little Johnny.

"Last night, at the dinner table, my sister told my father that she was pregnant, and he said, 'Beautiful, fucking beautiful!'"

We went in

We went in, we killed, we did it our way etc...

Got bugger all done last week art-wise but made a decent Wez costume and had a blast with good friends and the lovely Meaghan Saturday. I wasn't supposed to do anything last night but still somehow ended up with a hangover and some smiles today.

All business this week though. Well, mainly business.

Sort of photography/art related:

Meg's painting makes a great backdrop!
