The Dreaded Beginning

I feel about these pages as I did when I drew the first few pages of Something Animal. That is to say I think they're pretty shabby compared to what I'm capable of.

It's easy to fall into that comfortable but suffocating trap of doing what you know you can do well and what people expect or want to see from you. In regards to the craft that I honed and the details that I minded while completing Something Animal, these first few pages are an oversight.

And like the few first pages of SA, these will most likely get redone before the end.

Perhaps sooner.

All ink and gwaarsh on bristol.

Comics and Coffee

Meaghan and I will be on the panel tonight at 7pm for the "Comics and Coffee" discussion event at Emerald Knights in Burbank. I will have the original art for Something Animal with me if anyone is curious to see what it looked like before it was scanned in and fucked with.

All of the writers of Something Animal will be there too if talking about words is more your thing.

All the pages are done in watercolor so it's reasonable to assume that if we were on bad terms you could ruin the whole lot by spilling one well-placed drink.

Scotch

Scotch and robots with a strong chance of Indian food.

Does it get any better?

DOES IT?

Oh, and Meg's getting a veritable shitload of stuff done too.

Go investigate.

Presumably

Presumably the robot...

doesn't do all the killing.

We'd

I see him as a violent cross between Inspector Clouseau and Hercule Poirot; I wonder how Gavin sees him? Still figuring out the robot. I'm partial to Iron Giant and I'd like to avoid the generic Ghost In The Shell/Metal Gear style stuff but I'm really open to anything.

Acrylic on bristol.

Tactical.

Fuckrebleu!

Some more doodles for the new project. I urge you to imagine how this will look when it's done "for reals". That is not to say I won't be using sticky notes in the final artwork, of course.

Unlike pillows, my sketchbook displeases him.

Top Pussy

Trying to paint an elderly gentleman in body armor, with a mustache, that doesn't look like Solid Snake in MGS4: Round 1.

WIPs from just now:

What I learned today:
  • If I write all day I suck when I try to draw. I hope this isn't one of those things where I have to pick one.
  • I have a great idea for a pose, doodle it on a Post-It perfectly then when I try plan it out and paint it "properly" I fuck it up with a boring, straight-on piece of crap.
  • Painting tonally with black and white because I'm "not great" at painting in color gets limiting very quickly.
  • I can't draw feet.
These things will all get remedied over the next few months.

Or years.

Now I have a date with destiny at the Meaghaning.

THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE.

I see how

I see how it is Scrivener. I guess I'll just have to buy your excellent product.

This may

This may or may not be something from the top secret new project I'm working on:

and I'm only leaving this up until Gavin Hignight tells me to to take it down.

T-Shirts

Due to popular demand, T-shirts!

Buy one with the link to the right and I'll put the 7 dollars profit I make from it towards art supplies, dog food and bar tabs. It's win win.

Who knows, you might even offend someone with delicate sensibilities about reproductive rights.

You can tell

You can tell he's French from the mustache and cigarette (Gitanes naturally).
